TALES OF A CROSSDRESSER: Thank you Caitlyn

About nine years ago, my body began to break down due to the years of physical abuse of working manual labor jobs and construction. My knee, which had first been injured playing football finally gave up and when I went to see the kindly sawbones, he looked me in the eyes and said “Your days of being a human forklift are over.”

He sent me to a specialist and an operation was scheduled.

My daughters had been given a second-hand computer by a member of my family and we got the cheapest dial-up connection available in our rural area. My eldest had graduated high school and moved out of the house, so unable to navigate the stairs to my bedroom, I turned that room into my recovery room.

Thus I was locked into a machine that moved my knee joint for hours and remembering the doc’s advice, began to teach myself the use of computers and navigating the web.

It wasn’t too long before I started searching out information about transexuals (imagine that) and not much longer until I found a site that offered a tranny chat room. I was in heaven.

Anyway, the site had the usual profiles, blogs, et cetera associated with it and one day as I was chatting, I started talking to a gurl that had an amazing profile pic. She was sitting in her chair in an upscale Vegas hotel, her lovely legs and body backlit by the sun and her face obscured by a photoshopped glow.

She had a lot of good advice for me, as I was just coming to grips with my inner gurl and I loved chatting with her. She spoke a lot about how she had to be cautious since she was “in the public eye” and how she often went to Vegas where she could be a gurl, far from her home in California.

As the Caitlynn Jenner saga began to unfold earlier this spring, I began to wonder if the gurl I had chatted with so many years ago was her. I’ll never know, but I’m always thankful for my chats with that gurl.

I am in awe of Caitlyn’s bravery. Of course, there is a lot of snarking about making money, reality TV and such---but to me, as she speaks and the interviews of her I’ve read, her words ring with truth. Because I too, know what it is like to lead and be two separate lives.

I had come to the conclusion that I am far too old to seriously consider transition...plus other realities such as family responsibilities and my marriage vows. But Caitlyn is an inspiration, so I suppose I have to admit that if circumstances in my life changed, it would now definitely be an option.

Of course, her surgeon is an artist and the Vanity Fair shots were done by the world’s greatest portrait shooter, Annie Leibovitz. So yes, she really SHOULD look amazing. But still, underneath all the makeup and lights, I was amazed with Caitlyn’s final look. It gives me hope in case I ever decide to transition.

And that is what what the world, and especially we gurls, often need most---hope.

Thank you Caitlyn.

Thanks for reading and Be good to your inner gurl, she deserves it!
